Year-Round Pitching Development

Your Son Doesn't Need More
Lessons. He Needs One Plan.

402 Pitching Academy is a year-round development system that connects mechanics, arm care, strength, and mental game under one coaching team — so your son stops guessing and starts progressing.

Sound Familiar?

Most Families Spend $5,000–$8,000 a Year on Baseball — With No Plan

Private lessons on Tuesday. Travel ball on weekends. A pitching clinic in December. A showcase camp in February. A new pitching coach every time someone recommends one. A new lifting program found online.

Every one of those might be good in certain situations. The problem is nothing is connected. Your son gets multiple pieces of advice, no starting point, no plan to navigate it all, and no way to know if any of it is working.

  • Every coach has a different fix, and none of them compare notes

  • No structured plan connecting mechanics, strength, and arm care

  • Everything stops when the season starts, and the gains fade by summer

  • Nobody measured where he started, so nobody can show he's improved

  • Spending more without seeing more results

Five coaches = five routes.

Put one address into five GPS apps and try to follow all of them at once. You'd drive in circles. That's what most families do with pitching development.

402 is one GPS. We find out exactly where your son is today, lock in where he wants to go, and give him one route that updates as he grows.

— John Oltman, Founder

That's why 402 starts with an assessment, not a lesson.

The 402 System

One Team. One Plan. Five Pillars.

Every athlete gets an individualized development plan built around five connected pillars — because mechanics without arm care is a time bomb, and strength without movement quality is wasted potential.

⚾

Pitching Mechanics

Frame-by-frame video analysis. Sequencing, arm path, lower-half efficiency — all customized to your son's body.

💪

Arm Care

Shoulder mobility, scap function, rotational capacity. Not just band work — a real arm health protocol.

🏋️

Strength & Movement

Lower-half power, upper body elasticity, and functional athleticism that translates to the mound.

🧠

Mental Game

Breathwork, adjustment frameworks, competitive mindset training. The stuff that separates good arms from great pitchers.

📊

Progress Tracking

Weekly check-ins, benchmark testing, and program adjustments so you always know your son is on track.

402 isn't a lesson factory. It's a system. Your son gets assessed, gets a plan, and gets

coached through it all year — offseason and in-season.

Our Foundation

The HEAT Method

HEAT isn't a marketing gimmick. It's how we coach, how we develop, and how we
expect our athletes to show up. Every day.

H

Heart

We want guys who love the craft of pitching. Who compete with joy. Talent opens doors, but heart is what keeps you going when it's January, it's cold, and nobody's watching.

E

Endurance

Not just arm endurance. The physical and mental stamina to compete deep into a game, deep into a season, and deep into a career. We build athletes who are in it for the long haul, even when the going gets tough.

A

Anchored

Grounded in who you are, not what the scoreboard says. Anchored in process, routines, and values — whether you just threw a no-hitter or got lit up. Baseball is something they do — it's not all that they are.

T

Trust

Trust in the training. Trust in your coach. Trust in yourself on the mound when it's 3-2 with the bases loaded. That trust isn't blind — it's earned through reps, preparation, and the system.

We're not just building better pitchers. We're developing better competitors
and better people who happen to throw a baseball.

How It Works

Three Steps to Real Development

Get Assessed

We start with a full-body movement assessment and mechanical video analysis. No guessing — we identify exactly where your son is and what's holding him back.

Get Your Plan

Based on the assessment, we build an individualized training plan connecting mechanics, arm care, strength, and mental game — tailored to his body and his goals.

Train & Track

Weekly coached sessions during offseason. Individualized remote programming during the season. Year-round check-ins and adjustments through the 402 Training App.

What Our Athletes and Parents Say

"He helped me transform from a kid who was just trying to play a little in college to having some success while doing it. We worked on every aspect — velocity, arm care, mobility, mental game. Even now I still reach out if I have questions on pitching."

Brett Sears

402 Athlete

Triple A, Atlanta Braves · Nebraska Huskers All-American

"What makes Coach Oltman different from other coaches is his approach on the mental game. He has an app where he uploads mobility workouts, nutrition goals, conditioning, and strength training — plus zoom calls on the mental side. If you're serious about getting to the next level, 402 is 100% worth it."

Grayson Wallace

402 Athlete

Wayne State College

"Unlike other coaches, he takes the time to understand my mechanics, mindset, and goals, and built a program that actually works for me. I've gained velocity, improved my control, and most importantly, stayed healthy."

Brady Alderson

402 Athlete

Concordia University

I have so much appreciation for your focus on the whole athlete and not just their physical skills. He's finally making progress in areas we've tried really hard to address without success. What you're teaching him will be helpful when he's a grown up with a real job, a husband, and a father.

Meet Your Coaches

John Oltman

HEAD COACH & FOUNDER

I'm a former D1 pitcher at Creighton who's had the privilege of guiding hundreds of pitchers over the past 10+ years — from youth players to professionals. I hold a mathematics degree, which means I think in systems, not clichés.

I built 402 Pitching Academy because I saw what was missing: a year-round system that connects every part of a pitcher's development under one roof. Not more lessons. Not more tips. A plan that assesses where your son is, builds around his specific needs, and adjusts as he grows.

My job isn't to be the hero of your son's story. He is. My job is to be his trusted guide — to give him the roadmap, the tools, and the coaching to get where he's trying to go.

PERFORMANCE COACH

Brayden is a former right-handed pitcher at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He holds a degree in Kinesiology and brings 4 years of hands-on experience working with pitchers from youth through the college level.

With a background in strength and conditioning, Brayden bridges the gap between the weight room and the mound — making sure the physical development your son is doing actually translates to performance on game day.

He works alongside John to deliver the strength, movement, and arm care pillars of the 402 System — ensuring every athlete's plan is executed with the same precision it was designed with.

Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from private lessons?

Private lessons give your son one tip per week with no plan connecting anything. We start with a full assessment, build an individualized development plan across mechanics, arm care, strength, and mental game, and coach him through it all year. Every session builds on the last. That's the difference between tips and a system.

What ages do you work with?

We work with pitchers from youth through high school and beyond. The system scales — a 12-year-old's plan looks different from a 17-year-old's, but the framework is the same: assess, plan, train, track.

What happens during the season?

Development doesn't stop when games start. During the season (March–August), your son transitions to individualized remote programming through the 402 Training App. Weekly check-ins, game-ready arm care, in-season mechanical adjustments, and mental game support. In-person drop-in sessions are also available.

What if we're not in Lincoln or Papillion?

Our Remote Training program delivers the full 402 system anywhere. You get individualized programming, weekly coach check-ins, video analysis, and Training App access. Remote athletes also get priority waitlist access for local spots when they open — and your discount carries over.

How big are the training groups?

Groups are capped at 6 athletes to keep coaching quality high. Every athlete gets individual attention within the group setting. When groups fill up, athletes go on the waitlist with priority access to remote training.

What does the assessment include?

A full-body movement assessment covering hip and shoulder mobility, lower-half efficiency, scap function, and rotational capacity — plus mechanical video analysis with frame-by-frame breakdown. We uncover exactly what's limiting your son and build his plan around it.

What's the difference between the Papillion options?

Option A (402 Pitching Only) focuses on pitching mechanics, arm care, and individualized programming. Option B (402 + TTS) adds strength, speed, and agility training through TTS — a complete performance package with pitching development and athletic training under one roof.
